Introducing Making It Personal
How I wear Coco Shop and other fashion, style and things I'm thinking about.
Dear Reader,
Welcome! I have been reading a lot about Substack, subscribe to several (have found two that I love1) and have been looking for a way to better connect to Coco Shop’s customer, so here we are.
I’ve said for YEARS that I am going to put myself out there on Instagram. It is common knowledge that everyone wants a thorough understanding of the companies they buy from AND that it’s helpful and inspiring to see how things are worn and used in every day life, but I am throwing in the towel. I simply cannot speak to a camera and the platform feels both too public and out of my control. I am shy. Instead, I can write.
Here, once a month, maybe more often if inspiration strikes, you’ll find photos and descriptions of how I wear Coco Shop, but I’ll also write about and link to what I wear it with and other things I’m thinking about - clothing, trends, interiors, articles, books, places, etc. Coco Shop’s email list will continue to have product launches and event announcements and everything formally Coco Shop. This will be personal (and free for now, but who knows! Maybe…hopefully…it takes off).
Let’s begin -
Meet me, my husband and our daughter.
I took this photo over Labor Day Weekend when temperatures were warmer. With my Scoop Neck Dress, I’m wearing Emme Parsons sandals and a Cesta Collective tote. I have never loved a neckline more and am bringing it back in four prints for Resort. Too many? I hope not.
Now, it is September in Brooklyn and I’ve switched my florals to checks, while searching for the perfect pair of dark, dark, blue denim. I’m planning to wear dark, blue denim with red or brown sweaters every day this fall. There’s something new about this combination to my eye. And beige shoes. I only wear beige shoes. I like my shoes to fade into the rest of my outfit, so they are almost unnoticeable and it makes getting dressed easier.
From NYFW (which happened last week), I was interested to see Alejandra Alonso Rojas’s Spring 2024 samples. It’s not a brand I’m very familiar with, but she digitally printed her own hand-painted, red fish onto cotton. I’m excited at the prospect that we’ll see fish and lots of sea-side inspiration this spring. We love to stand out, but we also love to fit in!
Beige Shoes I’m Eyeing:
Hereu (Note that retailers are already marking down new, fall product. Fun as a consumer, but a bad sign as a small business owner. It’s hard to stand a chance.)
Interiors I’m Crushing On:
Things I’m Reading:
One of America’s Best Tailors Lives in Middle-of-Nowhere Maine
Fashion’s Coolest New Boutique is in The Cayman Islands
Lastly, we just moved into a new office in Brooklyn, New York - Email me at taylor@cocoshopwi.com if you’d ever like to come shop in person. The door is always open.
See you next time,
Taylor
The two substacks I love are Megan Strachan’s and Jackie Nesi’s. Megan, the founder of Dorsey, writes a very casual substack about what she puts on every day, with bits of motherhood here and there. My jewelry style might be too minimal for their jewelry, but I did buy myself their ID bracelet with my daughter’s name on it when she was born. Jackie, a psychologist and professor at Brown University, writes about technology, the people who use it and parenting in a digital age (with humor). I highly recommend it.
